17th Milk Bowl Memories Contest Winner

The Seventeenth Winner of the Milk Bowl Memories Contest Announced

Thunder Road has announced this week’s (Wednesday, August 1) winner in the Milk Bowl Memories Contest as Dennis Downer of Morrisville, VT. Downer is the seventeenth winner of a pair of tickets to the 50th Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl scheduled for Sunday, September 30.

Downer’s memory is of the 1972 Milk Bowl (won by Bobby Dragon) and he was 20 years old at the time: “Let’s start at the beginning, my birthday is May 31st, Thunder Road opened memorial weekend 1960, my parents took me to the race for my 8th birthday. I have been hooked since. Steve Fisk who worked at the track for many years was a classmate, Richard Doyle (Bob Doyle’s son) was my classmate, and Tom Curley was a teacher at Montpelier High back in the day. My favorite memory of a T-Road Milk Bowl is all of them; there is no better race to watch than his one. I can’t say I have been to all 49, but I have not missed more than a couple of them, due to military training. If I have to pick one it would be the 1972 Milk Bowl, it was the year I got married and Bobby Dragon won the race. Later on I worked with Bobby at IBM and became friends; he is a gentleman and a great race car driver.”

The eighteenth of 20 winners in the Milk Bowl Memories Contest will be announced next Wednesday, August 8. That winner will receive another pair of Milk Bowl tickets. All 20 ticket winners from now until Wednesday, August 22 will then be eligible for two (2) season passes for the 2013 season at Thunder Road. That winner will be decided based on a poll on the Thunder Road website between the 20 memory winners.
