Over 150 stock cars racing teams filled the pit area at Barre’s Thunder Road International

Speedbowl for last weekend’s Merchants Bank 150 season opener. Many of those teams brought their cars to Barre City’s Main Street for the Merchants Bank Car Show on the morning of Saturday, May 5, showing off their beautiful
brand new machines to race fans.
The top three finishers in each division, as voted by race fans, were awarded trophies. Winners in each division were also given bonus money. Pete Potvin of Graniteville, VT won $100 and the best appearing car award in the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model division. Potvin’s A.J. Rander/Tenco New England #41 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was given top honors, narrowly edging Brian Hoar’s Goss Dodge #45 Dodge Charger and Jean-Paul Cyr’s Sticks & Stuff/Ehler’s RV #32 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
South Burlington, VT driver Dick Lowrey was presented $50 and the first-place trophy in the NAPA Tiger Sportsman division for his orange-and-black AIG Insurance #08 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Lowrey’s mount beat out a tie for second place between Pete Ainsworth’s Froggy 100.9/Pete’s Auto #80 Ford Taurus and Tom Therrien’s Therrien Motorsports #48 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Therrien’s younger brother, Bobby, of Hinesburg, VT won the Allen Lumber Street Stock portion of the Merchants Bank Car Show and a $25 check with his A.H. Fence/Pioneer Motors #1 Dodge Daytona. Justin Gordon’s Lazer Wash/Capitol Earth Moving #02 Ford Mustang and Josh Demers’ Demers Auto #15 Ford Mustang completed the top three.


ALLEN LUMBER STREET STOCK WINNER BOBBY THERRIEN
Dale Bickford of Lyndonville, VT began a solid weekend with a win in the Power Shift Junkyard Warrior contest and a bonus $25 check. Bickford’s PDL Racing #59 Chevrolet Beretta also won the Warrior division’s feature event on Sunday. Finishing behind Bickford in the car show were Michael Gay’s Green Image Landscape #30 Mazda 323 and Frank Sanborn’s Waterbury Service Center #3 Ford Escort.
Thunder Road’s next event is the Casella Waste Management Mother’s Day Extravaganza on Sunday, May 13.
