“CLASS DAY” CEREMONIES TO HONOR THUNDER ROAD CHAMPIONS

Class Day is a fan favorite at Barre's Thunder Road!

Race fans, competitors, and officials will honor the four defending Track Champions at Thunder Road International Speedbowl during the annual “Class Day” ceremonies as the high-banked Barre, VT oval opens for its 48th season of stock car racing on Sunday, May 6. The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) returns to “The Nation’s Site of Excitement” with the Merchants Bank 150, at a post time of 1:30 pm.

The championship battles for all four of Thunder Road’s weekly divisions are wide open in the 2007 season, as all four “Kings of the Road” have either moved up or moved on. In the ultimate “go out on top” move, Waterbury Ctr., VT veteran Chad Wheeler captured his first Thunder Road title in the ACT Late Model division in 2006, and promptly announced his retirement from driving. Wheeler has sold his inventory to rookie Chip Grenier of Northfield, VT.

ATTENTION LATE MODEL TEAMS!

Be prepared to have your tire person put your wheels in line as well as measure up tires when you take your hauler to the track after dropping your car in Barre City at the annual car show. Fitzy and crew will be on-site mounting tires during the show. You'll be able to pick them up, when released, from the tire compound shortly after the parade. If not participating in the car show and parade, tire people can also put wheels in line at the tire compound and select rubber for Sunday's Merchants Bank 150.

MERCHANTS BANK PIT STOP CONTEST TEAMS GUNNING FOR HODGDON

Joel Hodgdon and team will try to win their third-straight Merchants Bank Pit Stop Contest on Saturday, May 5 at 10:15am!

Six stock car pit crew teams from Barre, VT’s own Thunder Road International Speedbowl and the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) are expected to challenge two-time defending Champions Joel Hodgdon and the Watson Real Estate/Tofani’s Used Furniture team at the third annual Merchants Bank Pit Stop Contest on Saturday, May 5. The competition will be held on Main Street in Downtown Barre City in conjunction with the Merchants Bank Car Show, celebrating the opening of Thunder Road’s 48th season of exciting stock car racing action.
     Hodgdon, a NAPA Tiger Sportsman rookie driver in 2007, has put together a championship-winning pit crew in each of the two previous pit stop contests. The five-person Craftsbury, VT team defeated all takers while representing the Allen Lumber Street Stock division in 2005 and 2006.
     Scheduled to challenge the Hodgdon team this year are the Merchants Bank/Burrell Roofing team of three-time Thunder Road Late Model Champion Cris Michaud; the Sticks & Stuff/RPM Motorsports team of six-time and defending ACT Late Model Tour Champion Jean-Paul Cyr; the VT Army National Guard/Ultramar team of two-time Sportsman Champion and 2007 Late Model driver Shawn Fleury; the A.H. Fence/Milton Rental & Sales team of Street Stock Champion and 2007 Sportsman rookie Eric Badore; and two teams comprised of officials representing Barre Town and Barre City.
     The Merchants Bank Car Show kicks off at 9:00am on Saturday, May 5, with the Merchants Bank Pit Stop Contest slated to begin at 10:15am. A parade to Thunder Road on Quarry Hill for all race cars in attendance – nearly 125 in total – will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by practice at the speedway at 1:00 pm. Thunder Road’s traditional “Class Day” ceremonies begin on Sunday, May 6 at 1:00pm, and qualifying action for the ACT Late Model Tour’s 9th annual Merchants Bank 150 begins at 1:30pm.
