Grudge Matches Settled at Historic Race

The biggest race of the year, The 50^th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl, has become the prime time focus for ACT teams across the region.  51 ACT Championship cars will enter Barre, VT’s Thunder Road, in an attempt to earn the lion’s share of a purse worth over $160,000.

With championship chases behind them, the race will serve as a grudge match for a series of 2012 duels.  2-time Thunder Road Champion David Pembroke will attempt to dethrone rival 2012 King of the Road Nick Sweet, after claiming the pole position in the race through time trials.  Sweet, who dominated the Thunder Road Late Model division on his way to his second title, will start directly behind him in third.

Drivers Look Ahead to $50,000 Bonus

When 51 ACT Late Model stock cars arrive at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road on Sunday, October 14^th for the 50^th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl, an extra incentive will be on their minds: Curley’s $50,000 Challenge.  The challenge, put out by long-time Promoter Tom Curley, is a $50,000 bonus to any driver that can win all three segments of the year-end Milk Bowl.

The task is daunting, but three drivers have already accomplished the feat: Larry Demar in 1967, Dave Dion in 1975, and Robbie Crouch in 1986.  Brian Hoar was one position away in 1998 when he won the first two segments and finished second to his father in the third.  Several others have won two segments but failed to complete the crown.

ACT Finale Postponed to Sunday

The Rent-A-Wreck Fall Foliage 200 at Plattsburgh, NY’s Airborne Speedway scheduled for Saturday, October 6 has been postponed due to rain, and will be run the next day, Sunday, October 7^th.  The race, which is the final event of the 2012 American Canadian Tour season, will have a post time of 1:00pm. 

The duel between Dover, NH’s Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Williston, VT’s Brian Hoar will have to wait another day, but will resume on Sunday to settle the American Canadian Tour Championship.  Helliwell, who currently leads Hoar by eight points, is looking to claim his first ACT Championship, while Hoar tries to earn an unprecedented ninth.
