ACT Introduces KONI Shock Option for 2014

American Canadian Tour Introduces KONI Shock Option in 2014

The American Canadian Tour (ACT) has announced that they have entered an agreement with KONI, one of the largest suppliers of shocks around the world, to introduce an additional shock option beginning in 2014. The shock which will be admitted to the approved ACT shock program is the new KON 30-7499.

Jim Ryan, automotive sales manager for KONI USA said, “KONI has enjoyed a successful relationship with the American Canadian Tour for over a decade. We were happy to enter a discussion on how we might be able to help racers from both the weekly affiliate tracks and the two touring series. The mission was to provide a shock that would in effect ‘tie down’ the front end of the race car while keeping within the ACT cost conscience business model. After a testing session last month, we were all very happy with the results, and KONI will begin the manufacturing process immediately.”

Thunder Road 2014 Schedule

Thunder Road Announces 2014 Schedule

Thunder Road International Speedbowl has released its 2014 stock car racing schedule. The schedule features 18 events from the end of April through the beginning of October, as is tradition at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement.” The biggest change for 2014 is the switch from Sunday “Twilight” events in early June to the return of the traditional June Thursday night events.

The season will kick off with the 16th Annual Merchants Bank 150 on the weekend of Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. The Merchants Bank event will be the only American Canadian Tour races at the ¼-mile in 2014.

The 52nd Annual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic will be on Sunday, May 25. This event will be the first of the 2014 Vermont State Championship events. The season will be highlighted by big Thursday nights. The Governor’s Cup 150, the second of Thunder Road’s VT State Championship events, will be on June 26 with the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Fireworks night the following week on July 3.

Street Stock Disqualification

Street Stock Disqualified after Mini-Milk Bowl

The 2012 Thunder Road Track Champion, Nick Pilotte, from Jefferson, NH was disqualified from the People’s United Bank ‘Mini-Milk Bowl’ after an engine teardown unveiled an illegal engine, according to the 2013 ACT rules for the Street Stock division. The violation was a mismatched set of pistons and heads.

During the same teardown inspection, Groveton, New Hampshire’s Jason Kenison was awarded the win. “We will have to examine the rulebook for 2014 as it relates to the Nissan 240SX,” said Dean Gallison, the ACT Director of Competition.

Third place finisher Tommy “Thunder” Smith from Williamstown, VT was torn down for the second time in the past couple of months and again was within the specs of the rulebook for the division. Smith was awarded second place following the disqualification.
