YOUNG STARS ARRIVE AT THUNDER ROAD FOR HARVEST EQUIPMENT EVENT
The popular win in the 54th running of the Memorial Day Classic,by Tyler Cahoon, Danville, VT was a sign of the emergence of another group of young talent that has arrived at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement”, Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in Barre, VT.
Joining Cahoon in victory lane were other young teams from Vermont including Scott Dragon, Milton and Jason Corliss, of Barre. Having top 10 finishes also were Cody Blake, Barre; Brooks Clark, Fayston; and Kyle Pembroke, Montpelier.
“It’s great to watch the enthusiasm that these young teams have when they run competitively. Most have raced lots of laps at Thunder Road in some division, but to race competitively in a Late Model race that has fifty-four (54) years of history is pretty special”, said former three-time track Champion, two-time Memorial Day Classic winner, and now race director at Thunder Road Cris Michaud.
The regular season steps into high gear this Sunday, June 12 with the rain make-up event from May 22, the Harvest Equipment Trophy Dash. The results from the June 12th Sunday afternoon event may be a tell-tale sign of just how exciting the championship chase may be heading into the summer Thursday night series, beginning June 16.
Tyler Cahoon is looking forward to the challenge of the 2016 season, but knows that the competition is balanced, and there are numerous unknown possibilities after his Memorial Day Classic win.
“Our goal was to win a race at T-Road this season, but I can’t believe we actually won one of the most historic races held at the old girl! It has just been an unbelievable good feeling to see how many people have been excited about our run last Sunday. I hope we can continue to make everyone proud of what we hope to accomplish this summer at Thunder Road. I know one thing about race teams at ‘TR’, we can’t slip up for one week or we will get way behind very quickly. I guess that is what makes it so much fun,” said the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic defending champion.
