Coca-Cola Sponsors Labor Day Classic
Becomes Official Soft Drink of Thunder Road
Thunder Road International Speedbowl is proud to announce Coca-Cola as the new official soft drink of the ¼-mile speedway and the headlining sponsor for the prestigious Labor Day Classic. Thunder Road will now sell a variety of bottled Coke products in their concession stands.
The “Nation’s Site of Excitement” is thrilled to add the Coca-Cola name to one of its premier events on the schedule. This season will see the 36th running of the Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic 200, which has built a lot of history over the years.The inaugural Labor Day Classic event was held in the Speedbowl’s first season back in 1960. Norm Chaloux won that first event and he was soon joined by the biggest names in the track’s history. Roy “Pappy” Forsythe, Ronnie Marvin, Doug and Russ Ingerson, Larry Demar, Jean-Paul Cabana, Dave Dion, Beaver and Bobby Dragon and Robbie Crouch have all etched their names in the Labor Day Classic granite monument.
After a hiatus from 1978 to 1996, the event returned as an American Canadian Tour event before becoming the annual Busch North Series race from 1998 through 2003. Tracy Gordon, Dale Shaw, Brad Leighton, Mike Olsen and Brian Hoar claimed wins during the Busch North years.
In the most recent years, the Labor Day Classic returned to the ACT Late Model schedule with Vermonters Jean-Paul Cyr, Dave Pembroke, Nick Sweet and last season Maine’s Travis Stearns all adding their names to the list of winners.
For the first time since 2004, this season’s Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic will be a Thunder Road Late Model point-counting event instead of an ACT event. The Labor Day race on Sunday, August 31 will be the final event in the Late Models’ Championship campaign. The 2014 “King of the Road” will be crowned following the 200 lapper.
Coca-Cola products will be on sale at every one of Thunder Road’s events, including the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 25.
