Allen Lumber Street Stock driver Troy Kingsbury and his #39 Ford headed to Thatcher Brook Primary School in Waterbury, VT for another stop on his Race to Read Tour on a sunny Tuesday, May 7 morning.
Race to Read, the program created by Kingsbury, encourages children to read more books by offering incentives and giveaways such as trophies, t-shirts, water bottles, and most importantly the opportunity to sign the hood of his race car if the children can complete his challenge of reading fifteen books or more. Thunder Road also has a drawing for students who have made progress on their reading lists, with the winner getting to choose a driver for the night. If that driver earns a podium finish, that student is sent to celebrate with their driver in Victory Lane.
Sunday, June 16 at Thunder Road will also serve as Kids Night, where children 12 and under will get free admission into the "Nation's Site of Excitement" and will also get the opportunity to take rides in real racecars around the track during the afternoon. Free hot dogs will be offered to kids from the brand new MGL concessions stands as well, along with the weekly Race to Read drawing. Front gate will open at 1:30pm.
Thunder Road will be back in action for the 51st Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 26 for the first event of the Vermont State Championship Series and a special appearance from the Devil's Bowl Modified division.
