Pit Notes for April 17 Practice

For the first time in nearly six months, engines came to life atop Quarry hill in Barre, VT for an all division practice on a beautiful Wednesday (April 17) afternoon at Thunder Road.  Nearly 50 stock cars took advantage of the three-hour practice session.

Approximately twenty Late Models were on hand, including Rookie of the Year contenders Jason Corliss, Josh Demers, and Kyle Pembroke.  Many of the Late Models sported new paint jobs, like former Champions Dave Whitcomb, Phil Scott, and Dave Pembroke.  Approximately a dozen Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen were on hand, as well as about a dozen Allen Lumber Street Stocks.  Two Devil’s Bowl Speedway Modifieds also attended the practice in preparation for their special event at the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 26.

Both rookies and champions alike turned out for the extra seat time.

“Well, the car is in one piece, and I got some extra time out there so I would call today a success,” said Corliss, who will be contending in his first full-time year in a Late Model. “I took 20 laps in a Late Model at the Milk Bowl practice last year, so these are the only laps I’ve had!  I can’t wait to get things started,” he finished.

Former Street Stock Champion Greg Adams also couldn’t wait to kick the year off.

“My car is bad fast,” he claimed, sporting a different car than he won the Championship with two years ago.  “It’s definitely faster than my Championship car was.  I’ve got the itch now. I’m ready for the opener,” he finished.

With the cars shaken down, teams will now turn to prepare for The Merchants Bank 150 this Sunday, April 28, which will open the season for the “Nation’s Site of Excitement.”  The car show will be held on Main Street in downtown Barre, VT on Saturday, April 27 from nine-noon before the cars will parade up Quarry Hill for another practice session.
