2012: Finished 3rd Overall in Allen Lumber Street Stock Standings
What are your favorite hobbies in the off-season?
I love to hunt and work on my racecar. I’ve hunted since I was about 10 years old with my family.
What do you do for work?
I work for the Town of Stowe Highways Department. I run lots of different equipment and plow snow.
What is your biggest life accomplishment?Meeting my fiancée Wanda. She was my neighbor when I was younger, so we’ve actually known each other for a long time until things progressed.
Big Plans for 2013?
I’m going to run a full schedule in the Street Stocks at Thunder Road, have some fun, and get some hardware. I’m going to let the chips fall where they may.
What is the state of your car currently?
The body is stripped off and I’m getting ready to put the new one on it. I’m running the same car I ran in 2012.
What race are you looking forward to the most in 2013?
Definitely the Milk Bowl. The race means a lot to me, but I’m mostly excited about it because I’m hoping not only to raise one big trophy, but two of them!
What was the highlight of the 2012 season for you?
By far winning the Milk Bowl. That really got the monkey off my back. I haven’t actually won a race since 2008. It was extra cool because it was the 50th Milk Bowl, so to win that really stands out for me. Thunder Road means so much to me, and it was such a milestone for the track that it made it very special for me.
Do you have a hero? Someone you idolize as a racecar driver or try to emulate?
Kyle Busch. I like his attitude and his aggressive driving style. He knows what he wants and he takes it. I like to think I have the same driving style.
Who is your biggest fan at the track?
My fiancée by far. She has been coming to the races for a long time, and was very supportive of me long before we got together.
What is something about you that most people don’t know?
People know me for my ‘hotshot’ attitude, but they don’t know that I’m my biggest critic. I’m harder on myself than anyone could ever imagine. During a race this summer I followed Tommy Thunder through the pack, and eventually finished second to him, and I’ve thought for months on how I should have won that race and what I did wrong and how I could win that race the next time. Whenever I get stuck in traffic I think back later on how I could have done things differently. I’m very hard on myself.
How did you start racing?
I started working on my Dad’s (Archie Hodgdon, Jr.) car. He raced in the Street Stocks for several years. Then I started racing Enduros at Thunder Road and tried to win many of them on the first lap, which doesn’t really work! Then I moved on to Warriors, won the championship there, and now race Street Stocks.
Tell me about your family?
I have four kids of my own, and my fiancée Wanda has two boys. They all come to the races and support me every week. My parents come to the racetrack, too and my dad always helps me in the garage.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?Hopefully I’ll have a Street Stock Championship under my belt and be racing in a Tiger car. I would really like to win the Street Stock title before I move up, but we’ll see what happens.
