Thunder Road Straps In for Double Points Night
Competitors Brace for Critical Championship Event

Championship hopes come to a crossroad this Thursday night (July 19) for The Times Argus Midseason Championship event at Barre’s Thunder Road. Double points will be on the line for all divisions, leaving no room for error in tight point battles across the board.

In 2011, struggling former champion Dave Pembroke took the checkers at The Times Argus Midseason Championships and, with another win the previous week, amassed enough points in seven days to pull into contention. Pembroke rocketed from mid pack to the point lead, and held on to claim the Late Model Championship. He currently rides second in weekly points.

“This race was huge for us last year,” said Pembroke. “Double points can really be a blessing and a curse, but I’m hoping for some of the same luck this year as we’ve had in the past. It’s been pretty good to us,” he finished.

Double points night at The ‘Road isn’t always so nice. While drivers like Pembroke and point leader Nick Sweet have enjoyed average finishes of 2.3 and 4.3 respectively in the last three midseason championships, Phil Scott looks to shake off the 11.6 average that has plagued him to surge to a record fourth Thunder Road title in 2012.

“We’ve struggled here the last couple years at midseason, and it can be a tough blow,” said Scott. “When you are as close to championships as we have been the last couple of years, this race becomes even more critical. We know how important this is,” he finished.

Bond Auto Tigers and Allen Lumber Street Stocks will also have their hands full on Thursday night with point battles that remain as close as ever. Jason Allen will attempt to hold off Josh Demers and Mike Martin who are just 11 and 14 points out of the lead respectively. Nick Pilotte will try to survive double points night to retain the point lead over hard-charging rookie Dean Switser, Jr., who sits only 5 points back.

The best of the best will leave everything on the line for double points night this Thursday night (July 19) for Midseason Championships sponsored by The Times Argus. Post time is 6:30. Admission for adults is $10, kids 6-12 are $3, family passes for four are $20, and children under 6 get in free.
