Dave Pembroke Takes 2011 “King of the Road” Title
Phil Scott Wins 100-Lap Aubuchon Finale
Montpelier’s Dave Pembroke earned his second career Thunder Road Late Model title with a seventh place finish in the 100-lap finale on Aubuchon Night, Friday, August 26. Pembroke came into the night leading John Donahue by 38 points. He lengthened his lead with a win in his heat race and sewed up the title in the feature.
It was Pembroke’s first season in his new Ford powered ride sponsored by VSECU and Lamoille Valley Ford. Pembroke’s previous title came in 2007. He is also a previous Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen Champion in 1999. He has won just about every big Late Model race at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement” with wins in the Milk Bowl, Labor Day Classic, Memorial Day Classic and Merchants Bank 150.
Craftsbury’s Mike Martin earned his first career Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen feature win. Martin came from the eighth position to take the win after getting around Blair Bessett on one of several restarts. Rookie driver Dylan Payea took second. Last week’s feature winner Jason Allen inherited third after Bessett was found to have an illegal carburetor in post race tech and was disqualified from the event. Jason Corliss and Bobby Therrien completed the top five. Matt Potter, Tony Rossi, Eric Badore, point leader Derrick O’Donnell and Christopher Pelkey took home top tens following the disqualification.
The Allen Lumber Street Stocks also had a first time feature winner in Bradford’s Thomas Placey. Placey won a fierce battle with rookie Ken Christman. Alan Maynard rounded out the podium with Martin Ingram and Cameron Ouellette taking top fives. David Whitcomb, Greg Adams, Jason Kenison, Troy Kingsbury and Bunker Hodgdon completed the top ten.
The Junkyard Warriors saw just four drivers in the pit area. Therefore they ran a special feature event, which saw a four wide start in the opposite direction on the racetrack as well as driving through the infield among other things in their Monza style two segment event. Williamstown’s Brock Parrott took the win. Danny Brassard, Jason Woodard and Kevin Wheatley took the second through fourth positions.
The “Nation’s Site of Excitement” will open its gates again next weekend for the 33rd running of the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic. Saturday, September 3 will see qualifying for the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen, Allen Lumber Street Stocks and Junkyard Warriors as well as a 41 lap make-up event for the Street Stocks. Sunday, September 4 the ACT Late Model Tour will roll into town for the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200. Post time both days is 1:30pm. Pick up advanced sale adult tickets now at Bond Auto locations and get a $5 discount.
