Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre has announced the return of Run What-U-Brung to the high banked oval on Thursday, August 10th as part of the annual NAPA/Make-A-Wish event. What is Run What-U-Brung you might ask? It’s when street cars, which take race fans to the ¼ mile oval, compete two-by-two in a single elimination races. The winner advances to the next round while the loser leaves town.

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to win at “The Road”? You’ll race the car you brought to the track that evening. You can test your racing abilities in front of a couple of thousand fans and maybe even return home a winner! No experience necessary, just show up and race!

Run What-U-Brung allows fans to become heroes for one night in their everyday vehicle. Fans travel from all over the state to compete in the annual event, for most it’s their only opportunity to race. Imagine racing your car or truck door-to-door with another fan. Go as fast as you’d like- no cops will stop you for going too fast around “The Nation’s Site of Excitement.”

Paul Giacherio Jr. of Barre is a veteran Run What-U-Brung participant. Giacherio and his infamous “bread truck” is always a fan favorite. It is anticipated that he and the truck will return for the event. Long time fan and first time participant Chris Butch of Moretown will enter his 1986 Chevy Nova for the event.

“I purchased the car seven years ago for 200 dollars and will be retiring it from the streets following the event. I figured racing at Thunder Road would be the perfect place for the car’s final trip.” He continued, “I’m really excited and hopefully I will get to race against someone whose car is as bad off as mine!”

All you need to participate is a valid registration and inspection. Drivers must be over 18 years of age. Vehicles with studded tires will not be allowed. Participants must arrive at the pit gate the evening of the event by 6:30pm and don’t forget your helmet! The NAPA Auto Parts / Make-A-Wish night has a post time of 7:00pm.
