Thunder Road SpeedBowl
Weekly action at Barre’s Thunder Road Speedbowl will be joined by the annual fireworks display on Monday, July 3rd. Following an exciting night of stock car racing action featuring the Late Models, NAPA Tiger Sportsmen, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, and Power Shift Warriors, fans can sit back and watch the sparkling colors emerge above the ¼ mile asphalt oval.

With three races in just eight days, the stamina of the drivers and crews will certainly be tested. The drivers will compete on Thursday, June 29th for the Sanel/Parts Plus event followed by the Monday, July 3rd Pepsi Holiday Fireworks event and finally on Thursday, July 6th the CMT/Charter Communications event. Typically drivers and crews have a week to prepare their cars for the next race.

Late Model competitor Dave Pembroke of Montpelier is looking forward to the challenge. “We try to stay out of trouble on the track each week. Unfortunately, the car was torn up a bit after last Thursday and required extra attention this week. The plan is to avoid trouble on Monday so we don’t spend the 4th of July rebuilding our car.” The 35-year-old driver continued, “My crew and I stand in the pits and watch fireworks after our race. It gives us an opportunity to socialize with the other teams. The holiday display is entertaining and a great way to finish the night.”

A shake-up in the points is likely, as current leaders are ahead by few. Late Model leader, Chad Wheeler of Waterbury Center is just eight points ahead of South Burlington’s Trampas Demers. Northfield resident Matt White leads the NAPA Tiger Sportsman only six points in front of Barre’s Nick Sweet.

The largest gap on the leader boards is the Allen Lumber Street Stocks. Only 26 points separate David Allen of North Troy and current leader Eric Badore of Georgia. Jeff Martin Jr of Moretown leads the Power Shift Warriors, just six points over Maynard Bartlett, Jr. of Wolcott. Being prepared for the event mentally and physically will be crucial for point leaders and those chasing the top positions.

Pit gates open on Monday, July 3rd at 4:00pm. Spectator gates open at 5:00pm. Ticket prices are ten dollars for adults and three dollars for children (ages 6-12) a family of four (two adults and two children) is just twenty dollars. Post time for the Pepsi Holiday Fireworks event is 7:00pm.
