Thunder Road SpeedBowl
A host of new faces in the NAPA Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stock divisions at Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl, Barre, VT will be on hand during the 2006 stock car racing campaign at the high banked, quarter-mile oval. The 47th season opens Sat/Sun, April 29/30 with the Merchants Bank 150 for the ACT Late Model Tour and the tracks three weekly divisions.

Several Junk Yard Warrior drivers have moved up from their entry-level class into the highly exciting 4-cylinder Allen Lumber Street Stocks. Mike Martin from Craftsbury Common, VT, the 2006 Warrior Champion served notice before the conclusion of the 2005 campaign that he’d move to the Street Stocks for ’06. Also making the switch is Maynard Bartlett Sr from Wolcott and David LaFleche of Graniteville, VT. Both Bartlett and LaFleche were feature event winners last season in the Warrior class. Paul Giacherio Jr from Barre, VT, a part-time Warrior racer and driver of the infamous “bread truck” in the annual “Run-What-You-Brung” events at Thunder Road also plans a move into the Street Stocks.
No less than five Allen Lumber Street Stock competitors plan to advance to the V-8 powered NAPA Tiger Sportsman division. Leading the way is two-time Allen Lumber Street Stock Champion, Joe Small from Milton, VT. Small also claimed the Sunoco Ethanol Triple Crown Series and served as the research and development (R&D) driver from Thunder Road’s alternative fuel program.
Also registered, as NAPA Tiger Sportsmen are former Allen Lumber Street Stock racers Matt Potter from Plainfield, VT, Lincoln, Vermont’s Garry Bashaw, Ben Bushey from Springfield, VT and Kyle Tatro of Hyde Park, VT.
Several drivers are returning to the Sportsmen division after taking some time off from behind the wheel including Gregg Lyman from Hinesburg, VT and Shannon Tomasovich of Milton, VT. Lyman, who hasn’t raced in several years, has several wins under his belt, plans to race in the six-race Tiger Sportsman Series. Tomasovich formerly raced at Airborne Speedway, Plattsburgh, NY in the division.
