Thunder Road SpeedBowl
Milton, Vermont's Joe Small, aided by four wins at Barre's Thunder Road, has won the use of an RV from Mekkelsen RV of East Montpelier, VT as part of the 2005 Winner's Circle program. In its eighth year, the Mekkelsen RV Winner's Circle program annually awards a weekend's use of an RV with 500 free miles, a value of nearly $900.

The year's 54 different feature winners across the four weekly divisions at the high-banked, quarter-mile oval were eligible to participate in the program. Eleven of the drivers posted more than one win and had their name in the drawing more than once. In addition to Small, Power Shift Warrior driver, Maynard Bartlett Sr. had his name in the RV drawing four times. Thunder Road founder Ken Squier drew the winning name by blind draw in front of the largest crowd in the history of the Milk Bowl's Booth Brothers Qualifying Day.
Small, who also won the 2005 Allen Lumber Street Stock Championship for the second consecutive year was thrilled with his unexpected windfall. "What a great opportunity it will be to have the use an RV for a weekend. With four kids it's hard to get away - this way we'll be able to have a family adventure. We'll have a great time planning our trip," he commented.
Small started his Street Stock career in 2003 at Plattsburgh, New York's half-mile Airborne Raceway when he won the Rookie of the Year title. The 2004 season was his first at Thunder Road. Once he got used to the smaller track Small found himself involved in a spirited battle for the championship with fellow sophomore driver, Nick Sweet. At the beginning of 2005, Small was selected as the research and development driver for Thunder Road's alternative fuel program. His Ford Tempo competed, and won using a blend of ethanol and gasoline which prompted others in the division to try, with success, the alternative mixture.
Small and Thunder Road's other champions and award winners will be feted on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the annual Banquet of Champions. Ticket information for the event at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Conference Center will be available in the near future.
