WHEELS FOR WARMTH "TIRE DROP AND SWAP" SET FOR OCT 29
Washington Country State Senator, former Thunder Road and ACT Tour Champion Phil Scott is spearheading a tire drop and swap at his business Dubois Construction in Montpelier. Scott's aim is to generate new funding for home heating help this winter. The program has been dubbed "Wheels for Warmth" and all proceeds from the Saturday, October 29 program will turn tires into cash for the State of Vermont sponsored "Warmth Program."

"With the recent rise in fuels costs, everyone across the region is concerned about the cost of heating this winter," Scott said. "I've seen the success of the Karen Kitzmiller Coat Swap and wondered why we couldn't do a similar thing with tires, plus benefit those who need help with their fuel bills this winter, especially the elderly."
Scott explains, "I've got tires in my garage taking up room that are still good but no longer fit the vehicle I'm driving - both summer and winter styles. Others I've talked to also have tires taking up room. So why not donate the good tires to a group who'll sell them at a reasonable cost with the monies going to the Warmth Program? The "drop and swap" will help people get rid of old tires, and give those looking for affordable used tires, a source of finding the right ones for their vehicle." "Plus," he added, "It will keep them out of our roadsides and waterways."
Additionally, Casella Waste Management will be on site to accept tires not deemed road worthy for a $4.00 charge. "We will donate half of the cost of each tire ($2.00) to the Warmth Program," stated Todd Deuso, Division Maganager at Casella Montpelier. The regular tire disposal price is $5.00.
Scott concluded, "Race tires will also be accepted - I just may have a few of those as well!"
Tires can be dropped off in advance at Dubois Construction in Montpelier (46 Three Mile Bridge Rd) on Thursday (Oct 27) from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Friday (Oct 28) from noon until 8:00 pm. Tires can also be donated on the day of the "Swap." They will be sorted and priced according to size.
