THUNDER ROAD'S ETHANOL CAR UP TO THE CHALLENGE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TR-052305-2
Barre, VT - In its maiden voyage, Thunder Road's ethanol powered Street Stock race car lived up to all expectations by finishing second in the Merchants Bank season opener. Piloted by defending Allen Lumber Street Stock champion, Joe Small of Milton, VT, the Ford never hiccupped in competition.

"The car ran great," Small said of his racer, which, for the 2005 race season, is being fueled by a 9-to-1 mixture of gasoline to Ethanol. "I haven't had to do anything different to the motor which makes converting to this fuel alternative so attractive. I wouldn't be surprised to find that some of the other (drivers) try it in the near future, especially since we ran so good, " Small commented.
"We want to make a statement that a cleaner burning corn-based fuel will not only help the environment, it will provide the same exciting level of competition to our fans, and at no extra cost to our competitors," Thunder Road promoter, Tom Curley said. "One division of race cars at Thunder Road will not make a huge difference," admitted Curley, "but at least it gets the ball rolling in the right direction.
Small will next tackle Thunder Road's high-banked quarter-mile oval on Sunday in the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic. Post time is 1:30 pm.
The Allen Lumber Street Stocks division is a 4-cylinder class predominately consisting of Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Cavaliers, Dodge Daytonas and other similar cars.
