WATERBURY, VT – American-Canadian Tour (ACT) President Tom Curley has announced that the ACT Late Model Tour will kick off the 2005 season at Lee (NH) USA Speedway with a brand new Goodyear tire. The 8-inch slick tire, seen as a breakthrough for American short track stock car racing, was developed over a six-month test period and will be manufactured at Goodyear’s home base in Akron, Ohio.

“We’re very excited about the new tire Goodyear has developed with us,” said Curley. “It is another opportunity for ACT to lead the short track industry with state-of-the-art thinking as we move forward. We are proud to reestablish our working relationship with Goodyear and look forward to a long-term partnership.”

Goodyear tires were tested at Thunder Road Speedbowl, ACT’s flagship track in Barre, VT, as well as three other facilities during the 2004 season. ACT drivers Joey Laquerre, Mark Lamberton, Roger Brown, Eric Chase, 2004 Champion Jean-Paul Cyr, and Ontario Pro Stock driver Bill Zardo tested the current Goodyear 8-inch model slick, allowing Goodyear engineers to record the feedback and build a new tire specifically designed for the ACT-type Late Model.

Laquerre met this fall with Curley and officials from Goodyear’s Akron, Ohio base at Thunder Road and White Mountain Motorsports Park, and tested the new design for over 500 laps during a two-day session. “This is by far the best tire we have run over the past decade,” Laquerre said. “When we tested the new tire, we put 300 laps on the same set of tires over a period of two days. From start to finish, the lap times were within a tenth of a second. With the old ACT tire, that margin would have been a half-second or more. The tires are consistent and they repeat themselves from session to session. Tom Curley and the Goodyear engineers did a wonderful job working with us and listening to the input we had during the tests. I think it’s the best thing since sliced bread, and the other racers will love it, too. It’s a better tire at the same price as last year’s tire.”

“We are very excited about this new tire, building it in the U.S., and seeing it proven on the race track,” said Goodyear’s Greg Stucker, Director of Race Tire Sales and Marketing. “By working with an organization as powerful as ACT, racers and promoters across the Northeast and across the country will take notice over the next year or two, and hopefully make the switch to Goodyear.”

The new Goodyear tire will make its debut as the ACT Late Model Tour kicks off its 14th season of competition on Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH. For more information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit
